Musical Influences

Most anyone who has something to say and says it tastefully or
if it just flat out kicks or stands out in some extraordinary way...
I'm a fan of alot of players-like many of you spent a great deal of time listening-learning-jammin along when I was a teen (seemingly eons ago-thank God music can keep you young). I prefer rock but I go thru jazz-classical and blues phases. Overall one could say I like almost all styles of music._________
Holdsworth
In the JL Ponty/UK/Bruford days
nobody had tone or played like him.
These are my fav years from him.
Of noted interest is hearing his growth span from the Gong & Soft Machine days to the B'ford era.
Roger Fisher
Pat Thrall
Ulrich Roth
Manfred Mann
Toto (all first 3 albums)
REO
Dan Huff
Harry Cody
Randy Bachman
A bunch of Funk guys

From the Keyboard:

Now that you are here, I suggest you remember two simple things. RW is the tool... and you are not. Various blather...

Most of what is posted here is crossection of what I've been working on as I'm not as up to speed on RW as I'd like to be. I started out doing small riff segments and posted a smidget of what was working on-I've left those up just to show where I started out.____________________ I think it was Clint who said; "Mans' gots to know his limitations" (course, I think that was while looking down a barrel) and while in part-that is true, I also am striving to be a better player and writer through RW. At times..the only limitations I wish to be aware of are the ones I recognize for myself and wish to circumvent or overcome without getting irritable in the process. Needless to say, there are plenty in the world who would rather recognize your limitations and leave you there. Fortunately, much of RW community and those who use RW are willing to at least give out a hand or a suggestion and not push you in the playground quicksand. There are positives and there are negatives. You have to strive and push boundries for yourself but, such as it is, there's really no resting on laurels.. you can be appreciative of what you done, but theres always room for personal growth in music. It is, in part, some of the reasoning why it appeals, why I continue to express it and why it is a dual edged sword sometimes. I have alot of respect for people here are attempting to put themselves thru the same wringer and on the same limbs and of course, those who simply do it and don't give a rip...they also show a certain tenacity and integrity. _________________Other thoughts:________________________ RW is a simple DAW, but it does have alot of real user friendly features which are very cool that takes some experimentation in putting to work habit. It takes a bit of time to figure out EQ, mix, presets, rewire etc. Its very handy to work out ideas, I spend alot of time recording ideas but I tend to 'hold back' on posting for one reason or another.____________ ___Just a little background about me: I often could be found engrossed in a copy of GP while in school (even in class to the dismay of teachers) and spent many hours in the school library going over past issues; gaining insight into the talents/styles of other players. I just enjoyed reading about the lives, approach to playing, perspectives, their influences and equipment. That made a big impression on me that this was what I would like to do._________________ If you like what I do, drop a comment/shout. If you have an opinion on the mix or maybe a suggestion in an area for improvment, I promise not to bite. I'm a little more open to it now than when I was when I first started posting here.
