Song contest for RiffWorks users sponsored by Schecter Guitars, Seymour Duncan, IK Multimedia & Drums On Demand.
Seymour Duncan's Choice Category Winner
gromitsdad (aka Chris) won the grand prize for his song "Wide Funk"! He wins a Schecter C-1 electric guitar upgraded with a pair of Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts humbuckers. Plus a Schecter gig bag, 5 RiffWorks InstantDrummer Sessions by Drums On Demand and a 1 Yr. RiffWorld Creator Membership. Worth Over $1000.
"The last thing I won was a Bachman Turner Overdrive paper weight from a radio station when I was 10 years old or so, and a vinyl copy of Lionel Richie's "Dancing on the Ceiling" (seriously!). So by comparison I think winning a Schecter C-1 with Seymour Duncans has anything else beaten by miles! I really had no expectations of winning, so when I checked my email this morning I literally had to look at it at least three times to make sure I was reading it right. The funny thing is that I've truely been looking at buying a Schecter for months now, especially the C-1! I can't wait to start recording with it."
"To record this song, I used an ESP EC1000 Ltd. Deluxe (Black Cherry) with an EMG 81 and an EMG 60 (I'm really looking forward to trying out the S.D. Blackouts!) running through a Line 6 TonePort UX2 into Gear Box. For the lead parts I used a 1983 Fender Lead II that I've had for 20 years (with a Seymour Duncan in the humbucker position). For the bass I used an Ibanez I have on semi-permanent loan from a good friend, also running through the TonePort using the "Sub-Sonic" setting and tone. I'll be using that bass tone a lot in the future...I like how it came out."
"I cannot thank Seymour Duncan, Schecter and Drums on Demand enough for putting up such incredible prizes!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! What Sonoma Wire Works, Line 6 and everyone else involved have done creating a feedback based online music community is absolutely amazing. Congratulations to everyone for a great RiffRumble 11, and here's looking forward to number 12!"
Popular Category Winner
michaelx1968 received the most votes from the public for the second time (see RiffRumble IX) for his song "Firestar". He wins an IK Multimedia StealthPlug™, 5 RiffWorks InstantDrummer Sessions by Drums On Demand and a 1 Yr. RiffWorld Creator Membership. Worth Over $200. Michael had this to say:
"It is an honor to win the Popular Choice category for a 2nd time! I have got to thank Matt & Kat Innis for all of their help getting the word out, my fellow rumblers, and everyone who voted for me! I used my Epiphone SG Custom EX (Prophecy Series), My AXL Wavepoint (Bloodsport series) guitars, and Dean bass. The pedals I used were: Dunlop Wylde wah, Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, and a MXR 10 band EQ. I recorded the song with my GuitarPort, GearBox, and RiffWorks! My inspiration for this song was a story in the Bible about a giant asteroid named "Wormwood" that destroys the Earth. It is also referred to as the "Firestar".!"
Contestants' Choice Category Winner
ShredRex wins the Contestants Choice for the second time! See RRIX). ShredRex (aka Duane) received the most votes from the RiffRumble 11 competitors for his song "Crossroads". He wins a pair of Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts humbuckers, an IK Multimedia AmpliTube® Metal Download, 5 RiffWorks InstantDrummer Sessions by Drums On Demand, and a 1 Yr. RiffWorld Creator Membership. Worth Over $600. Sonoma asked ShredRex to comment on his win:
"I am really happy and excited about winning the Contestants Choice Category. As I have said before, it is an honour and a privilege for me to part of this community. To be selected by a group of peers like this is what makes it even sweeter. There are so many talented artists and musicians here, it just blows my mind my song was selected. I just want to say thank you to everyone for their votes, and want you all to know how much it means to me! "
"I was working on this song for months. In fact, I had hit a brick wall on the leads and was ready to scrap it and just submit an old song. But I really wanted those Seymour Duncans...so I made it come together. I used my Schecter C-1 Elite for the rhythm guitar parts, recorded the guitars using the Mississippi Criminal amp model in GearBox. The leads were done with my new Ibanez RG1570, hence all the whammy work. It may have been a bit overdone, but it was something new and I just got swept away! The lead guitar tone came from my Marshall HDFX direct into the TonePort. It worked out well, and will probably be how I record all of my guitar tones in the future."
"As far as inspiration goes, I think we all like the challenge of stepping it up a notch when a RiffRumble comes around to showcase our tunes...and there were some seriously amazing entries again this time around. I want to thank Sonoma for the opportunity to participate in the rumble, cause without them and their amazing software none of this would be possible. Thanks to all of you that make up the community...even as the word continues to spread and the family continues to grow...it is still a tight knit and supportive place to share music and experiences with fellow musicians. I have met many great people here, and hope to meet more of you in the future. Keep rocking out, and thanks again."
