September 2008 Song Contest with up to $2500 in Prizes from IK Multimedia & Drummerheads for the Best Songs Made with RiffWorks.
Contestants' Choice Category Winner
geocare (aka Geoffrey) received the most votes from the RiffRumble 12 competitors for his song "The Right To Fuse"! Geo wins IK Multimedia's New Total Guitar & Bass Gear Bundle which includes AmpliTube® 2 Guitar Amp & FX, Ampeg® SVX Bass Amp & FX, AmpliTube® Jimi Hendrix™ Vintage Amp & FX, AmpliTube® Metal High-Gain Amp & FX, and AmpliTube® X-GEAR Expandable Rig. Worth $599.
"My thanks to Sonoma, IK Multimedia, the RiffWorks community, all musicians who entered, and all the contestants who gave me the nod! This is awesome and totally unexpected! As most of you who enter the rumbles know, you put your heart and soul into your tune and then put your “baby” out there. On some level, it’s emotional!"
"For this tune, gear-wise, I used two "Frankenstrats,” one with Duncan Vintage Rails, the other with a Carvin humbucker. Both of these guitars are unremarkable with one exception: they both feature very wide fingerboards made by Warmoth. They are called “Superwide” and measure 1 7/8 inches at the nut. Yeah, it feels about like a nylon string classical guitar neck! I’ve come to like the feel of these and chording is easier near the nut, at least for me. All of the tones were made from models and effects in Line 6 Gearbox. I did add a few RiffWorks effects here and there, however."
"The drums were imported using Amit’s IntelliRiffer software and DrumCore’s Alan White “Brownesque” samples. Thanks to Amit for working directly with me and tweaking his program so it would accommodate my 8 zillion tracks! I recommend it to save the day when you need to move some riffs around or import drums and/or do some external editing before bringing the parts back into Riffworks." [Editor's Note: Alan White Brownesque is available as a RiffWorks InstantDrummer.]
"The title of the tune, "The Right to Fuse," is a bit of a play on words considering the current political climate, but also is sort of a veiled reference to fusion music popularized in the mid to late 1970s. At RiffWorld, we can exercise our right to do fusion! Cool!"
"What inspires me? Well, using RiffWorks has awakened the giant within, you might say, and inspired me greatly. I have been looking for a program that is quick and easy to use and RW fills the bill. I tend to play guitar about 45 minutes a day and RW is really good for short bursts. When I get a little section to sound good, I’m inspired to keep going to the next part."
"But, let’s face it. The best thing about RiffWorks is the program COMBINED with the community of players and a responsive company. We get easy to use software, an audience for our compositions, encouragement from peers and even the ability to collaborate. Who could ask for more?"
Popular Category Winner
michaelx1968 received the most votes from the public for the third time (see RiffRumble 11 and RiffRumble IX). Michael wins 3 RiffWorks InstantDrummer Sessions by Drummerheads. Worth $27.97. Michael had this to say about winning:
"Winning a RiffRumble is an awesome feeling! Being able to promote my music worldwide in a contest of this nature is even better! For this tune I used my standard set up: Line 6 GuitarPort, Line 6 Gearbox, RiffWorks, Epiphone SG custom (Prophecy series), Dean Edge 09 bass, and a Superlux microphone."
"My inspiration for this song was all of the natural disasters that have been happening around the world, may God bless all of the victims of such events."
"In closing I'd like to thank my fellow contestants, My AMAZING Street team led by Matt & Kat Innis, and Everyone that voted for me! I would also like to say congratulations to geocare for winning the Contestants Choice category!"
