Congratulations to the winners of RiffRumble 14! Thanks to almost 100 people who entered or collaborated on Holiday themed songs.
Rooney's Choice (Grand Prize)
Wiese won the grand prize for his entry "Winter is Coming" - he collaborated with blue4u, cwight and ThrobbyRobby. He wins a Dean Markley DM-J360 E Acoustic Guitar!
Matt Winter, Rooney's bass player, said, "My choice is "Winter is Coming." I dig the high energy intro, with the Dire Straits-esque guitar work and vocals that remind me of T. Rex.
JoJo (Wiese) says, "Wow what a surprise! I'm so happy that I won this 'Rumble! I have never won something in my life (except my wife - she was a big win)! Thanks to Sonoma! Without you, RiffWorks and RiffWorld we can't make such great music and songs! You throw me out off the livingroom into the whole world to make music with talented musicans worldwide! That's so fantastic! Thxxx about that! Now I will say Thxxxx to Dean Markley for that fantastic guitar and for
sure I will love this wonderful thing! Also thxxx to Matt Winter from the Band Rooney who picked my song to win! (Hey Rooney, I like ya music too and have some BEEEEEEER on me!) And a real Big Thxxxx goes to Rich (blue4u) for fantastic Vox and Lyrics, to Colin (cwight) for fantastic magic guitar and to Robby (ThrobbyRobby) for the real fantastic big bass. Love you guys. When I play this sweet guitar I ever will think of You my FANTASTIC FRIENDS!"
"About my inspiration for this song! In Germany it is winter and the weather is dark
and grey. So I'm sitting at the window and think about Mickey, Robby and Sonoma and how you all have a blue sky where it is warm and sunny! And my brain says, "Hey JoJo, do a Winter song in a Southern Style." So I did it! For this song I used my Prs Se with the VG-99, the Acoustic guitar, the slide guitar
and some solos. I used GuitarPort and GearBox. For the mix and cleanup I used Audacity!"
"So THXXX to all and wish all of you happy holidays!"
Rich (blue4u) says, "JoJo is so creative! He's always reinventing himself with each song. It's a pleasure and an honor when he asks me to sing. I approached the lyric and vocals in a playful way to see where I could take it. Colin's guitar part sets up the beginning nicely. Rob's bass completes the groove with an excellent tone and delivery. Great stuff all around! Congrats guys!!"
Colin (cwight) says, "Being able to collaborate with such great musicians from around the world is such an exciting experience, and RiffWorks makes that possible. First of all I'd like to thank JoJo, for inviting me to the collab and coming up with such an inspiring canvas to play on. He is a real creative force, a great guitar player and always comes up with great stuff to play over. Rich (blue4u) deserves a special mention; he provided the lyrics (I think) the melody and a great vocal track. I have a special respect for anyone who sings (best that I don't try, believe me). Robby (ThrobbyRobby) plays some of the meanest bass on RiffWorld, with killer sound and always manages to just do the right thing to help it all hang together. Then best of all, they invite me. What more can you ask for? The real winners though are all of us who use the program and contribute to the site, the collabs and the forums. I've made so many great friends through this community, and working on collaborations has reignited my interest in music again and improved my playing (well I think it has...). How cool is that?"
Rob (ThrobbyRobby) says, "RiffWorld has allowed me to collaborate with the best musicians I've ever played with, collaborating on 33 songs in 2008. It's a real honor to play with Jojo, Rich and Colin, and be a small part of this rumble's winning entry. Thank you Jojo for all the invites this year, and a big thanks to Sonoma for making all of this possible. JUNKIES RULE!"

Contestants Choice Category
geocare (aka Geoffrey) won the contestants choice prize for his song "Silent Night Holy Night"! He wins an Apple iPod touch 8GB plus an iTunes gift certificate for $9.99, which you may use to purchase the NEW FourTrack iPhone/iPod touch application by Sonoma Wire Works. Plus an Ultrasound AG30 Acoustic Guitar Amplifier. The best selling compact acoustic amp on the market for the last 5 years is built to Markley’s specs for Ultrasound Amps. Plus RiffWorks InstantDrummer Sessions by Discrete Drums and Recording Magazines.
Geoffrey says, "It is truly an honor to be the Contestants Choice top vote getter...wow! I was shocked when I read the list the other day and saw geocare leading off. Thanks to all of you who selected my entry among your top 3. Thanks also to Dean Markley, Discrete Drums, Recording Magazine, and Sonoma for the fabulous prize package. Nice!"
"As I described in my blurb for my entry, I really was thinking about Christmas carols and landed on this one real quick. Even though Silent Night does not exactly match the form of a 12-bar blues, it’s pretty darn close. So, I sat down at the ‘puter and recorded the blues-y riff in the first section, threw down a "chop" rhythm guitar, and tried the melody over it and, voila! Some of those first melody lines ended up in the final mix. So, this tune started out as kind of a gag but became more serious as I fooled around with it."
"I sent a 4-riff demo to Auckland. He offered to lay down 5-string bass and I said go for it! The second section is over a standard blues progression but I decided to go with what I call a "not blues" solo, just for the heck of it. The end section was inspired by a short demo Auckland sent me. I didn't really use his but sort of stole the vibe and tempo but changed the beat because I knew I wanted to bring back the melody like I did. I used a Facial Fuzz stompbox in Gearbox for lead in the grandiose, rocked up fade. All guitar parts where played on my wide-neck Warmoth Frankenstrat with a Carvin humbucker and two DiMarzio singles. Most drums were imported from Alan White’s "Silhouette" via DrumCore. I'm not too sure what Auckie used. All I know is he laid it down!"
"Thanks again to all who participated, listened, voted, and put heart and soul into their work. Congratulations to Weise and danieldiez for their wins. Thanks again to Sonoma for creating a place to pursue our ideas and realize our musical dreams."
Auckland says, "I used a Lakland 5-string bass with active Bartolini pickups through a BBE Sonix Maximizer and an Eden amp model in Gearbox (via Toneport UX2).
"It was fun to contribute to such a talented player's interesting approach to Silent Night. Thanks to all for the votes, but more importantly, thanks to all for their music and positive spirits."
Popular Category Winner
danieldiez received the most votes from the public. This is his second win - he won the public vote for RiffRumble 13. For RiffRumble 14 he wins RiffWorks InstantDrummer Sessions by Discrete Drums and 12 sets of Dean Markley VintageBronze Guitar Strings in a wooden gift box.
Daniel says, "Hello again friends. It is a pleasure to serve my music to a large community like this. I am grateful for your comments about the song and everything in general. For my recording, I used my Line 6 TonePort UX1 and my JD-L 80 BK guitar "always goes with me" :D. I played a lot with the sounds and tested several possibilities. My inspiration for "I Like It" is dedicated to a special friend. Convey the passion, madness, power, adrenaline and love. I have a great passion and personal dedication to music, step a long time composing, creating new styles and sounds. We also thank all my friends, his observations and especially my girl Yasmina, my baby ;). Finally to thank the community for giving us a very good and easy RiffWorks software."
